Acrostic Writing Activity

Define

An acrostic poem is when the first, last or other letters in a line spell out a particular word or phrase. The style most commonly used is when the first letters of each line spell out a word or phrase. This usually makes the poem easier and more enjoyable to read!

To create an acrostic poem, you will need:

  • A theme/word to base your poem on
  • Creative ideas!

Explain

To start with, you need to write down possible words or themes you want to base your poem on.

Then think about possible poetic techniques such as similes, metaphors and imagery that you wish to include...

Finally you need to create a poetic sentence for each letter to make an acrostic.
